Rabbit Supply
Necessary Rabbit supply is a very serious thing when you decide to obtain a pet rabbit. These animals are not the easiest ones to maintain. They need a skillful and devoted owner who understands the lifecycle of the rabbit and knows about basic keeping requirements for the domestic rabbit.
The main thing among Rabbit supply is a cage. It should be spacious enough, clean, and warm. The bedding should be made of cotton or straw. Each adult rabbit should be kept in its own cage. In the wild, Rabbits live in a variety of habitats where they can find enough food and a good cover. Normally, these animals are active during the night, and spend the daytime in the shelter. It means that in captivity, Rabbits need a cozy and safe place where they can feel secure. Home ranges of wild Rabbits are rather large. These animals live solitary lives and need individual enclosures.
The best cover for a wild Rabbit is a corridor-like structure. You can attract a wild Rabbit to your yard by creating brush piles near food sources to protect these animals from predators. Allow brush to develop in the backyard and plant grass corridors near hedges to provide a food source for a Rabbit. Keep in mind that Rabbits are pests for gardens. In winter, they feed on twigs and bark of young fruit trees. If you buy a captive bred Cottontail Rabbit, neither use this method of making a shelter, nor let it run freely in the backyard. Pet Rabbits need special Rabbit supply and should never be allowed outdoors unsupervised, as they are an easy prey for dogs, cats, and other animals.
Cottontail Rabbits feed on a variety of grasses. Pet Rabbits do well on special pellet diet for rabbits. Fresh clover, grasses, and some vegetables are necessary supplements to their diet. Overfeeding that causes bloat is fatal for bunnies. Excessive handling and too warm temperature are also very stressful and harmful for little creatures. Wild caught or orphaned Rabbits don’t make good pets and don’t survive in captivity, even if provided with all necessary Rabbit supply.
